The iPhone hacking community has already given us a glimpse of the potential of the iPhone as a gaming platform with native iPhone games like Raging Thunder and with the official native iPhone games around the corner it is safe to say that this is just the beginning.
Checkout the video clip (after the jump) of the pre-alpha preview version of latest native iPhone game Kingdom Lores, a 3D fantasy game for the iPhone based on a custom OpenGL rendering engine
Kingdom Lores is a 3D fantasy game for the iPhone which is based on a custom OpenGL developed by Marco Giorgini, author of Yeti3D and CubeWorld and is currently a pre-alpha preview release. It makes use of iPhone's revolutionary touchscreen for the game's controls.
For this native iPhone game, Marco has used an entirely new and custom 3D octree-based engine. In its pre-alpha version you can't really do much other than run around a village and kill a few creatures with the feature.
Folks at TouchPodium who have played around with Kingdom Lores had this to say about it:
"The graphics are pretty decent. There isn’t a whole lot of variety here; there’s one type of building, three creature models (you, the monster, and a stoic blacksmith stuck in the middle of the village), a crate, a treasure chest with no inner lid texture, and the blacksmith’s “booth” with assorted static weapons and shields lying about. Your movements are more or less the same as Yeti3D; the four cardinal directions, attack, and jump.
There are quite a few options to the game, though not all of them currently work. Portrait and landscape play modes are supported, as well as accelerometer control that can be configured to work as strafing, movement, or looking around. You can also change whether your view is from behind your character or in first-person mode, and you can alter the virtual game pad configuration. Unfortunately there’s a bug in the options menu that in certain situations prevent you from leaving the options menu. I wasn’t able to test the accelerometer feature or alternate gamepad configurations because of this bug."
